T.P.

When you have to visit a public bathroom, you usually find a line of women, so you smile politely and take your place. Once it's your turn, you check for feet under the stall doors. Every stall is occupied.

Finally, a door opens and you dash in, nearly knocking down the woman leaving the stall. You get in to find the door won't latch. It doesn't matter, the wait has been so long you are about to wet your pants! The dispenser for the modern 'seat covers' (invented by someone's Mom, no doubt) is handy, but empty. You would hang your purse on the door hook, if there was one, but there isn't - so you carefully, but quickly drape it around your neck, (Mom would turn over in her grave if you put it on the FLOOR! ), yank down your pants, and assume ' The Stance.'

In this position your aging, toneless thigh muscles begin to shake. You'd love to sit down, but you certainly hadn't taken time to wipe the seat or lay toilet paper on it, so you hold 'The Stance.'

To take your mind off your trembling thighs, you reach for what you discover to be the empty toilet paper dispenser. In your mind, you can hear your mother's voice saying, 'Honey, if you had tried to clean the seat, you would have KNOWN there was no toilet paper!' Your thighs shake more.

You remember the tiny tissue that you blew your nose on yesterday - the one that's still in your purse. (Oh yeah, the purse around your neck, that now, you have to hold up trying not to strangle yourself at the same time). That would have to do. You crumple it in the puffiest way possible. It's still smaller than your thumbnail

Someone pushes your door open because the latch doesn't work. The door hits your purse, which is hanging around your neck in front of your chest, and you and your purse topple backward against the tank of the toilet. 'Occupied!' you scream, as you reach for the door, dropping your precious, tiny, crumpled tissue in a puddle on the floor, lose your footing altogether, and slide down directly onto the TOILET SEAT .. It is wet of course. You bolt up, knowing all too well that it's too late. Your bare bottom has made contact with every imaginable germ and life form on the uncovered seat because YOU never laid down toilet paper - not that there was any, even if you had taken time to try. You know that your mother would be utterly appalled if she knew, because, you're certain her bare bottom never touched a public toilet seat because, frankly, dear, 'You just don't KNOW what kind of diseases you could get.’

By this time, the automatic sensor on the back of the toilet is so confused that it flushes, propelling a stream of water like a fire hose against the inside of the bowl that sprays a fine mist of water that covers your butt and runs down your legs and into your shoes. The flush somehow sucks everything down with such force that you grab onto the empty toilet paper dispenser for fear of being dragged in too.

At this point, you give up. You're soaked by the spewing water and the wet toilet seat. You're exhausted. You try to wipe with a gum wrapper you found in your pocket and then slink out inconspicuously to the sinks.

You can't figure out how to operate the faucets with the automatic sensors, so you wipe your hands with spit and a dry paper towel and walk past the line of women still waiting.

You are no longer able to smile politely to them. A kind soul at the very end of the line points out a piece of toilet paper trailing from your shoe. (Where was that when you NEEDED it??) You yank the paper from your shoe, plunk it in the woman's hand and tell her warmly, 'Here, you just might need this.'

As you exit, you spot your hubby, who has long since entered, used, and left the men's restroom. Annoyed, he asks, 'What took you so long, and why is your purse hanging around your neck?'

This is dedicated to women everywhere who deal with a public restrooms (rest??? you've GOT to be kidding!!). It finally explains to the men what really does take us so long. It also answers their other commonly asked questions about why women go to the restroom in pairs. It's so the other gal can hold the door, hang onto your purse and hand you Kleenex under the door!

Why....

Why do all good things have to come to an end? It seems like nothing good is ever here to stay ... there is one thing, or one person I guess, I want as a permanent fixture in my life.... and, once in a while I get a glimpse into what would happen if that came true, and it is so amazing... the up and the downs... it is what makes me happy, then it always comes to and end and that person goes away and it is another month or so before I get  to enjoy this again...

Why do good things always have to come to an end?

in the ATL

I am blogging today from the Atlanta airport... I am on my way to Ohio for media calls. I will fly in the Akron, then rent a car and drive to Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Cleveland and then back to Akron in a week.

So... I am on the plane in Ft. Myers and a good looking guy in his, oh probably early 30s sits down next to me. YAY! We didn't talk the whole flight to ATL except for the hi how are you... and then once on the ground we had a nice little chat... turns out he is from Naples and works for Collier County (the county just south of mine). He is on his way to Las Vegas for a conference.... we chat chat then get of the plane..... I am in line for lunch 45 minutes late and 2 people behind me, there he is! Small world! We chat some more and he asks if he can sit with me for lunch.... we sit together and eat out lunches... we know people in common, like the same things... conversation goes well.... we chat for almost an hour... so in my head I am like this dude is def. going to ask for my number or e-mail or something.... we finish eating, he is like it was great meeting you!! I say yea! you too... then we both stand there for a sec and then go our seperate ways......

So, that didn't exactly go like I was hoping... I guess I could of been like oh, here is my card! Give me a call sometime if you want, but you all know that is just not me... but I should of! Maybe if I had I couldn't be single still....

Oh well :-( Maybe our paths will cross a different day....

No one cried... YAY!

I haven't had much time to write lately... have been super busy at work and the Fall semester started at the college. I am teaching two night classes again this semester and then am also taking a class.

There was a big conference in town last week and our Bureau was in charge of planning and working the big events, which kept us all pretty busy. The last night we had a Jimmy Buffet themed reception and dinner which went over really well. We even brought in a sand sculptor to design some table top sculptures.... talk about talented! And, luck me, I was nominated to be on the sand clean up committee!

Classes are going really well so far. We made it through the 1st week and none of my students cried! YAY! Always a good sign!

I am taking a class through Continuing Eduction to earn my Wedding Planning Professional certification. I am so excited! The class is awesome so far. This weekend my homework is to put together a questionnaire to have brides fill out during their initial consultation... any of you who know me know this is just about my dream job!

So, things have been a bit hectic, but all good. After a month of dog sitting Ellie and I are back home in our apartment and we are staying busy and keeping out of trouble.

TS Fay

Just a quick update on Tropical Storm Fay as it happens....

Luckily the storm didn't turn into a hurricane before it hit land. All the schools, government offices and most other business are closed today. The rain is pretty heavy and we are having some strong gusts of wind, but because the storm is so disorganized it is coming in spurts.... overall we are very lucky so far! Lots of heavy rain and winds, but the power is still on so can't complain!! If it changes, I will keep you posted!

P.S. I love you

My favorite quotes from the movie

P.S. I Love You

So now, alone or not, you've got a walk ahead. Thing to remember is if we're all alone, then we're all together in that too.

M.I.A.

So I know I have been MIA for the last few weeks, but things have just been CRAZY busy...

Ray and his sons came down for 4 days (starting 7/19). It was great to see the boys! We spent most of Sunday and Monday (I took the day off) at the beach... the boys were all about checking out the girls, it was pretty funny. We had a really nice time... played catch, tanned
(or at least I tried!), just had a good time. Ray and I both got new tattoos Monday afternoon. I got a lady bug on the top of my foot and he got a Sun thingy on his arm... it looks really good! I have been wanting a lady bug tattoo on my foot for years and finally got up the courage to do it! I had issues about getting a tattoo where people could actually see it (I know, that's kinda the point of tattoos, but I'm special haha). Tuesday I had to work, but when I got home the 4 of us went out to Red Lobster to celebrate Ray's birthday, then home for cake (which I made and decorated) and presents and watched a movie. We also had an ongoing UNO tournament for the 4 days... They left Wednesday morning aftr I left for work. I was sad to see them go, but had a great time while they were here!!

The next Sunday (7/27) I left for a conference in Las Vegas. It was a conference on Tourism Marketing and was pretty interesting. The conference was Mon - Wed and I took a redeye flight home Wednesday night, so got back to FL about 10:30 am Thursday. My co-worker Siggy and I flew out earlier Sunday morning so that we could go see the Cirque De Soliel show Zumanity Sunday night. It was AWESOME!! They did a great job of aking it sensual yet hilarious and the talent of the dancers and acrabatas was incredible!

After getting home on Thursday morning, I had to teach Thursday night and then this week we wrapped up the semester. My students took their final exam last night... most of them did pretty well... YAY! So, I have made it through 2 full semesters of teaching at the college at night.

As you can see, the last few weeks have been crazy busy, but good busy. I have a couple weeks now until the Fall semester starts and am home for a week before I head to Orlando for Governer's Conference for work.

I will post pictures of the adventures soon!!!

Scary thoughts from the mind of me!

For those who have not tried the Cheez-It Duoz™ Zesty Queso and Cheddar Blanco, you are really missing out! I tried this lovely combination last week and was very impressed!

Caution: Do not eat out of the box or you may eat the whole box! That is how good they are!

I am a big Cheez-It fan.. there is something about the cheesey little square crackers that are just yum yum good. However, I am not a fan of the other brands of cheese crackers that try to be like Cheez-Its. People try to pass them off as being the "same" but alas that is just not so!

I say if you are going for it, do it right and have the true, ultimate cheese cracker!

Cheez-It offers a wide variety of products now, and even try to offer a "healthier" version. However, when you are going bad, go all the way. That is my advice! I really am a fan of all flavors of the Cheez-It family. It sorta depends on my mood, but now that I have tried the Zesty Queso and Cheddar Blanco, there may be no going back!

4th of July

I haven't had time to blog about my AMAZING 4th of July Weekend yet, so I will do it now... better late than never! Right?!

I had a great weekend! I got to Nicole's house around 9 a.m. Friday morning (yes, that means I left my house at 5 a.m. and for all who know me, know that is a great feat!). Jason and
Bionca came over to Nicole's and we all drove to Ormond Beach for the day where we met up with Andrea, her husband Jason and their friends. We spent most of the afternoon attempting to play volleyball in the water, which turned more into chase the ball because we were all so bad... but no matter, it was fun! Then, Jason let Nicole and I try out his boogie boards... we had a blast!! In the afternoon the storms started coming back in so we piled back in the car and headed home... with an eventful side trip to Starbucks of course!

Jason & Bionca went home and Nicole and I started getting ready for the fireworks. We went downtown to Lake Eola with Joe and some of his friends and met up with Jason and Bionca. It was a lot of fun and the park was PACKED! We spread out blankets and all lounged around and enjoyed the evening while waiting for the fireworks. The show was spectacular!!

Saturday morning Ray called and invited me and Nicole to the beach. He came and picked us up and the three of
us jumped in the car and headed over to Cocoa Beach. We spent all day there and had a blast! We played volleyball again, which we are getting better at, bought our own boogie boards, had some beers and just hung out having a good time... it was nice to be able to see Ray for a bit! Then about 4 we headed home with a stop at Arbys for dinner.

Nicole and I did a bit of shopping after Ray dropped us off at home (what is a girls day without shopping?!?!) and then got all cleaned up and headed downtown for an old fashioned girls night like we used to have. I had a blast! We went to my favorite - Lizzy McCormick's and then hit up Wall Street for a bit... then grabbed a slice of pizza (an Orlando tradition) and made it home about 3:30 a.m.! I haven't been out that late in FOREVER!!! It was fun just to be able to hang out with Nicole like we used to... I really miss that!!

Sunday I met Denise for lunch and then headed home. It was a really wonderful weekend!! I was sad to leave Orlando! I was able to see all my friends I miss so much and just have a fun time with no worries!!!

Random thoughts....

So I have a random thought to share with those who may care... or not care... that is the great thing about blogs!

I think it is so funny how you can wear something 10 times and all the sudden on the 11th time people notice and compliment it...

For example, I wear heels to work on a daily basis... there are a few days here and there that I wear flats, but on average I would say I wear heels almost every day. I think everyone in the office has made a comment about me wearing heels today. They aren't anything special, just a pair of black pumps. My guess is people are commenting because I have on capris instead of long pants, so it is easier to see the shoes. But, whatever it is, I think it is funny.

It also makes me think... if no one notices my adorable (yes, my shoes are adorable) heels every day, why do I wear them? I feel like a bum the days I don't, so I guess I wear them for me as much as for what they look like to everyone else. However, I really do think it is funny that today everyone notices.

Well, that's is my random thought for the day!

Hair Advice Needed!

So, I have been thinking about getting my hair cut shorter... I have never had my hair that short and thought it might be a fun change. My stylists is the one who gave me the idea... what do you think?!?

Just a few more days!!

I am so excited about going to Orlando for the 4th of July this weekend!!! The last couple years my 4th of Julys have not been so great, but I think this year is going to turn them around!

I am heading up to Nicole's either late Thursday night or bright and early Friday morning. The plan is to spend the day at the beach on Friday, and I think Jason and Bionca are going to be able to come too!! I can't wait to see everyone!

Not sure what the plan is for Saturday, just hanging with Nicole... which I can't wait for!!! I don't like living this far away from her. I need my Pookie chat time!!!

Sunday I am planning on meeting Denise for lunch which will be fun too! We need to catch up! So, it should be a busy and fun weekend. I can't wait!!

Now I just have to get my class through their 1st test Thursday night and I am off for a weekend of fun!

A Funny for your Monday!

One morning during a camping trip, the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.

Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out.

She motors out a short distance, anchors, and reads her book.

Along comes a game warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, 'Good morning, Ma'am. What are you doing?'

'Reading a book,' she replies (thinking, 'isn't that obvious?')

'You're in a Restricted Fishing Area,' he informs her.
'I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing. I'm reading.'

'Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up.'

'If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault,' says the woman.

'But I haven't even touched you,' says the game warden.

'That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment.'

'Have a nice day ma'am,' and he left.

MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads.
It's likely she can also think.

Do you ever notice

Do you ever notice how some people know just how to play you? They know exactly how far they can push you ... and they know exactly what to do to to melt your heart again before it is too late......

Is everyone this predictable or is it just me? Can everyone play me like that, or just this certain someone?

Oh the things you see!

Exploring new places gives one the opportunity to see new..... and sometimes strange.... things!

Last week I got up bright and early Tuesday morning, got on a plane
and took my first trip to Minneapolis, MN.

I headed to MN for work, but was able
to find a few moments during the 48 hours I was there to do some exploring of my own... here are some are some of the things I discovered on my journey:
Most people have hear
d of the TV show Hell's Kitchen... well, the "hot spot" for breakfast in
downtown Minneapolis is Hell's Kitchen...  When I heard I was having a meeting here, I have to admit I was pretty darn excited. I have no idea if it is related to the TV show, and after eating there I seriously doubt it, but
it really was a neat place! I headed out of
my hotel and was walking down the main streets in downtown Minneapolis in search of Hell's Kitchen. I take a turn onto 10th Street, and there is this tiny sign saying Hell's Kitchen over the door of what looks to be the s
mallest, hole in the wall restaurant I have seen. However, open opening the door the restaurant was HUGE! Well, maybe not huge but much much bigger than anything I expected from the tiny, unimposing entry way and sign hanging outside... then to boot, the hostess asked if we had reservations! Ok, I guess I was way off on saying this was a tiny hole in the wall... apparently the whose who of MN dine at this secret get away! I now know why! I had the best breakfast I have had in years and the big mugs of coffee were just what the doctor ordered!

On to my next fun fact of Minneapolis....
Well, I am not sure what the connection is, and I am sure a little research would explain it all, but there on the corner
of 7th and Nicollet Ave in the heart of Nicollet Mall, there is a bronze statue of Mary Tyler Moore! She is standing on the corner, right outside of Macy's department store (which seems like the best place to be if you ask
me, unless you're actually inside the store), holding her purse
and watching the crowds go by. So, of course I had to have a Kodak moment with my now-friend Mary!

A must stop while in Minneapolis would have to be Brit's Pub. Located right in the middle of downtown, this Irish pub offers the best brew in town as well as lawn bowling... that's right I said LAWN BOWLING!! And yes, I understand there are no lawns in the middle of downtown in a major metropolitan city. However, Brit's overcame this problem and built their own lawn... on the roof! I went up to see this roof-top lawn bowling for myself and there were people everywhere! All shapes, sizes and ages drinking their irish brew and have a grand
old time out on the lawn!
And now to La Creme de La Creme!

It is a sunny Wednesday afternoon and I am walking down the street with my co-worker Kimball and I hear her say "Katie, is that a  bride sitting in the middle of the street." I look and sure enough, ther
e
is a lady sitting on a potter in the middle of the side walk fully clad in her wedding dress!
It was the funniest sight I have ever seen. She was all alone, cigarette hanging out over her mouth, can of Coke in her hand, just sitting out on the street in the middle of the afternoon like this was the most normal thing in the world. I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought to myself "there is
no way I am seeing this, she can't really be in her wedding dress!" As we get closer, and pass the drunk man getting
arrested,  it is confirmed.... this woman is really sitting on the planter, across the street from the Presbyterian church, in the middle of the afternoon in the middle of the week. By the time we got closer she was chatting with a homeless man. I heard her tell him that she was getting married Saturday and her wedding rehearsal was that
afternoon.... I hope for her sake that is true and not just in her head!!!!

Oh the things you see!

Bad blogger Katie

Ok, so after giving it much thought and going to a seminar on Social Media, I have come to realize I am the WORST blogger in the world... I think I break every "rule" blogging has... who know blogging has rules!

So, after much thought, I have decided to become an A+ blogger! I am going to make a concerted effort to blog at least once a week and actually comment on other people's blogs, not just read them... so on that note, lets see how long I keep this up for!

This week is crazy trying to get ready to go to Minnesota next week. I am only in Minneapolis for about 1.5 days, and it is totally stressing me. Apparently every editor or freelance travel journalist goes out of town in the middle of June... who knew!! If anyone has any insight on why this is... please do share! I am all "ears"!

On a lighter note, Nicole and I had a blast this weekend! We met in the middle for the day and just had lunch, went shopping, rode the carousel.... all that fun stuff! We even had a little VOGUE fashion show in one of the shops ... I am sure the girl in the store loved us!Here is a shot from the fashion show! Top Models!

TGIF!

Well, I am happy to report it is finally FRIDAY!!! YAY!

Thank goodness, this has seemed like the longest week ever. I have been stressed out the last two weeks between work and personal issues, so haven't been sleeping well. Needless to say, I am ecstatic that it is the weekend and I can get some quality R&R.

I didn't have too much planned for the weekend, but then I got a call from Danny around lunch time saying he was in town and did I want to get away from work and do lunch! I was so excited. The 1st Friday of the month is really busy for us at work, so I couldn't get away, but Danny brought subs and we had a picnic at my desk. It was a really nice surprise. Tonight we are going to the movies and are going to see Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day . It looks really cute, and I haven't been to the movies in a few months, so, again,I am excited. (I miss Friday night movie nights!!) Also, I am getting my hair cut right after work, which I am looking forward to also! It is LONG over due.

Tomorrow Aunt Pat and I are going out to Sanibel Island to go on the "Ding" Darling Wildlife Refuge tram tour. I have been to Ding many times before, but never on the actually tram tour. Since it is a really popular attraction here, I figure I should actually go check out the tours I promote. So, if anyone wants to come down and visit there are tons of fun things we can go do and it will help me get up to speed on the local attractions. It should be interesting since the high is supposed to be 68 tomorrow, and we are going out the the island at 9 am, but it will still be fun.

Nothing exciting planned for Sunday... catching up on math and getting ready for the week ahead. Well, back to work. I will let you know how the movie is! Have a great weekend!

Welcome to the 21st Century!

So, after months of reading Jason's blog and him bugging me about having my own blog, I decided I should plunge in and do it!

Like Nike says - Just Do It!

It seems like we are all spreading out further and further, which is sad but I guess that is what happens as we get older and "grow up." However, thanks to the world of technology it seems like it is easier than ever to stay in touch. So, I have decided to join the 21st Century and start my blog.

I am excited to share what is going on in my life with you and hopefully hear back with what is going on in your life. So, cheers to blogging! Lets see how long I keep it up!
